Accessibility

SITA Airport IT is committed to inclusion and accessibility. Our goal is to ensure that all users – regardless of physical or technical limitations – can use our website independently and without obstacles.

This declaration of conformity describes the functions of parkita.de. We show how we meet the requirements of the following laws and standards:

  • European Accessibility Act,
  • EN 301 549,
  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1
  • Barrier-Free Accessibility Act (BFSG)

We review this statement regularly and always strive to further improve the accessibility of parkita.de. The statement refers exclusively to parkita.de.

Overview

parkita.de is a website for marketing parking spaces at Düsseldorf Airport (DUS). Users can book various parking spaces via a booking portal or find out about other parking options such as event parking at the PSD BANK DOME or the parking garage at Carlsplatz.

We strive to make parkita.de easy to use for everyone. Here you will find an overview of how to use the site, especially when using assistive technologies:

Parkita.de user guide
Users can log in or out of their customer account on any page via the black bar (meta navigation) at the top of the screen. It is also possible to switch between German, English, and Dutch.

In the desktop view, the main navigation bar is located below the meta navigation bar. It consists of several menu items arranged side by side, including direct links and submenus. Submenus marked with “Ü” can be opened by hovering over them with the mouse or clicking on them. It is also possible to navigate through the menu items using the TAB key. Submenus can be opened and menu items selected by pressing the SPACE BAR. The last menu item, highlighted in pink, is located on the right-hand side of the main navigation bar and is labeled “Reserve now,” which takes visitors to the main function of the site, namely parking space booking.

In mobile view (with a screen width of less than 1024 pixels), the main menu can be selected via a so-called “burger button” at the top left of the screen, below the meta navigation. Clicking or tapping (on touchscreen devices) on the button opens and closes it. Unlike in the desktop view, the menu items are arranged one below the other. Here, too, they can be accessed using the TAB key or by pressing the cursor keys and selected using the SPACE BAR.

Conformity with accessibility requirements

We have tested parkita.de against the following regulations: European Accessibility Act, EN 301 549, WCAG 2.1, and the German Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG). We adhere to the following principles:

Perceptible
To make the content easier for you to perceive, we have implemented the following measures, among others:

  • The text has sufficient contrast and can be enlarged up to 200% without losing any content or functionality.
  • Images have alternative text descriptions, unless they are purely decorative and their content is already provided in the text.

Operable
Our service is designed to be user-friendly, ensuring ease of use:

  • The website can be operated using the keyboard.
  • We avoid design elements that could trigger seizures or physical reactions, such as blinking or flashing elements.
  • The animation of graphic elements can be deactivated.

Understandable
To ensure the comprehensibility of our service, the following features are available, among others:

  • Assistive technologies can recognize the language of the website.
  • Input errors are automatically detected, and the error is described to you in text form.

We test parkita.de with the most common assistive technologies in various combinations of operating systems and browsers:

  • Screen readers such as NVDA and JAWS (Windows) and VoiceOver (Mac and iOS) help us ensure that all interactive elements are read aloud correctly and can be operated.
  • We also test use with screen magnification and in high-contrast mode.

Our goal is to be compatible with the current versions of common assistive devices. We follow the best practices of WCAG 2.1 and the EN 301 549 standard. This ensures that accessibility is maintained even with future technological developments.

Standards:
On this basis, we apply the criteria of WCAG 2.1 (AA level, current version) and EN 301 549. Compliance with these standards is considered proof of conformity with the EAA, the BaFG, and other relevant regulations.

Ongoing monitoring and maintenance

For us, accessibility is not a one-time project, but an ongoing process. This is how we ensure that parkita.de remains permanently accessible:

  • Accessibility Team
Accessibility experts review every new feature or major change for potential barriers before release. We also monitor changes in laws and standards and incorporate new developments in assistive technology into our updates.
  • Automated Reviews
Testing and monitoring tools are integrated into our development process. They identify typical problems such as missing alt text or form labels early on. Every code version undergoes these checks.

External Audits
In June 2025, we commissioned AccessiWay to conduct an objective audit. This identified both accessible features and barriers, which we are continuously working to reduce.

Known limitations and alternatives

We are currently not aware of any major areas of parkita.de that are not accessible. All core functions have been developed to comply with applicable standards.

However, there are some minor limitations:

Sensory Properties
Some instructions only explain content using specific features. These features include shape, color, size, location, orientation, or sound.

Contrast
The display of text and images with text often lacks contrast. However, there are exceptions, for example, with logos.

Headings and Labels
Headings or labels do not explain the content or function well enough.

Please note that the list of currently inaccessible content is not yet complete. We are continuously working to complete it and provide appropriate alternatives.

As soon as these issues are resolved, we will update this statement accordingly. Our goal is to achieve complete accessibility in all areas. Our team is continuously working to identify and remove any remaining barriers.

Claim of a disproportionate burden
parkita.de was developed to comply with all relevant legal requirements. We currently do not claim any exceptions or disproportionate burden.

If a new requirement were to be deemed disproportionate in the future, we would conduct a corresponding assessment. In this case, we would update this statement, including a justification and a description of possible alternatives.
