Scope and Legal Basis
This accessibility statement applies to the website www.parkita.de and the services provided there. It describes the functions of parkita.de. We show how we meet the requirements of the following laws and standards:
- European Accessibility Act,
- EN 301 549,
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1
- Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BFSG)
- Regulation on the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSGV)
We review this statement regularly and continuously strive to improve the accessibility of parkita.de.
Overview
parkita.de is a website for marketing parking spaces at Düsseldorf Airport (DUS). Users can book various parking spaces via a booking process or obtain information about other parking offers such as event parking at the PSD BANK DOME or the Carlsplatz parking garage.
Further information can be found in our General Terms and Conditions, the cancellation policy, and the data protection information.
We strive to make parkita.de easy to use for everyone. Here is an overview of how to operate the website, particularly when using assistive technologies:
Parkita.de Operating Description:
Via the black bar (meta navigation) at the top of the screen, users can log in or out of their customer account on any page. In addition, it is possible to switch the language between German, English, and Dutch.
In the desktop view, the main navigation is located below the meta navigation. It consists of several menu items arranged side by side, including direct links and submenus. Submenus marked with “Ü” can be opened via mouse hover or click. Navigation through the menu items using the TAB key is also possible. By pressing the SPACEBAR, submenus can be opened and menu items selected. The last menu item, highlighted in pink on the right side of the main navigation, is “Book Now,” which directs visitors to the main function of the website, namely parking booking.
In the mobile view (for screen widths less than 1024 pixels), the main menu can be accessed via a so-called “burger button” at the top left of the screen, below the meta navigation. Clicking or tapping (on touchscreen devices) the button allows the menu to be expanded or collapsed. Unlike the desktop view, the menu items are arranged vertically. They can also be navigated using the TAB key or cursor keys and selected using the SPACEBAR.
Implementation of Accessibility Requirements:
We have reviewed parkita.de with regard to the following frameworks: European Accessibility Act, EN 301 549, WCAG 2.1, and the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG). In doing so, we comply with the following principles:
Perceivable
To make it easier for you to perceive the content, we have implemented the following measures, among others:
- Text has sufficient contrast and can be magnified up to 200% without losing content or functionality.
- Images include alternative text descriptions unless they are purely decorative and their content is already provided in the text.
Operable
Our service is designed to be user-friendly, ensuring easier operation:
- The website can be operated using a keyboard.
- We refrain from design elements that could trigger seizures or physical reactions, such as flashing or blinking elements.
- The animation of graphical elements can be deactivated.
Understandable
To ensure the understandability of our service, the following features are available, among others:
- Assistive technologies can recognise the language of the website.
- Input errors are automatically detected and described to you in text form.
We test parkita.de with the most common assistive technologies in various combinations of operating systems and browsers:
- Screen readers such as NVDA and JAWS (Windows) as well as VoiceOver (Mac and iOS) help ensure that all interactive elements are correctly read aloud and operable.
- Additionally, we check usage with screen magnification and in high contrast mode.
Our goal is to be compatible with the current versions of common assistive tools. In doing so, we follow the best practices of WCAG 2.1 and the EN 301 549 standard. This ensures that accessibility is maintained even with future technological developments.
Standards:
To meet digital requirements, we apply the criteria of WCAG 2.1 (AA level, current version) as well as EN 301 549. Compliance with these standards is considered proof of conformity with the EAA, BFSG, and other relevant regulations.
Ongoing Monitoring and Maintenance
Accessibility is not a one-time project for us but an ongoing process. This ensures that parkita.de remains permanently accessible:
- Accessibility Team
Accessibility experts check each new function or major change for potential barriers before publication. They also monitor changes in laws and standards and consider new developments in assistive technologies in our updates. - Automated Testing
Test and monitoring tools are integrated into our development process. They detect common issues such as missing ALT texts or form labels at an early stage. Every code version undergoes these checks.
External Audits
In June 2025, we conducted an objective audit by AccessiWay. Both accessible features and barriers were identified, which we continue to eliminate continuously.
Known Limitations and Alternatives
Currently, we are not aware of any major areas of parkita.de that are not accessible. All central functions have been developed to comply with applicable standards.
The following areas, however, show limitations regarding accessibility:
Sensory Characteristics
Some instructions explain content only with specific features. These features may include shape, colour, size, location, orientation, or sound.
Contrast
The display of text and images with text often has insufficient contrast. Exceptions include logos.
Headings and Labels
Headings or labels do not sufficiently explain the content or function.
Emails
Individual emails may contain elements that are only partially accessible to users of screen readers or other assistive technologies. These include images without alternative text, complex table structures, or inconsistent formatting.
PDF
Many PDF and Word documents are not accessible. For example, they are not tagged, so they cannot be captured by screen reader users or only partially with structural information.
Please note that the listing of currently non-accessible content is not yet complete. We continuously work to complete it and provide appropriate alternatives
Once issues are resolved, we will update this statement accordingly. Our team is constantly working to identify and eliminate remaining barriers.
Assertion of Disproportionate Burden
parkita.de has been developed to comply with all relevant legal requirements. Currently, we make no exceptions and do not invoke a disproportionate burden.
If a new requirement should in the future represent a disproportionate burden, we will conduct an appropriate assessment. In such a case, we would update the statement – including a justification and the presentation of possible alternatives.
